Check · Explained after the fact
Crypto liquidation cascades, replayed without hindsight.
A huge BTC transfer or a liquidation cascade hits the feed, and the explanations arrive later, written with hindsight. What was actually known at the time?

A crypto liquidation cascade looks obvious afterwards and confusing while it happens. Big moves attract explanations, and most are written after the fact: a transfer headline becomes "whales were dumping", a cascade becomes "obvious top". SuperQuant's replay and daily record keep the evidence in the order it was known, so you can learn from a move without hindsight.
What it looks like
Big moves get explained with information nobody had at the time.
- Whale-transfer headlines arrive with no market context.
- After a liquidation cascade, timelines blur what was known, and when.
- Confident direction calls come with percentages that were never checked.
- TransferBot🚨 5,000 BTC moved to an exchange
- MarketFeed📉 BTC −5% in 1h · $400M liquidated
- Tradercalled it, whales were dumping all week
- Analystobvious top, the chart said so
- SignalBotNext move: 87% chance down

Why it happens
Why hindsight stories mislead you
- HindsightThe story comes after the moveExplanations written afterwards use information nobody had at the time.
- No contextA transfer isn't a tradeCoins moving to an exchange can mean many things; the headline can't tell you which.
- False precisionConfident numbers, no recordA probability that was never calibrated is a guess with a decimal point.
In depth
How a crypto liquidation cascade unfolds
Leveraged positions have liquidation prices. When many sit close together, a move into that zone forces the exchange to close them, and those closing orders push price further, into the next cluster. The chain can run in minutes, which is why cascades leave long wicks and sudden reversals.
Mark price, not the last trade, usually decides when a position is liquidated, and venues absorb losses differently, from insurance funds to auto-deleveraging. These details matter when you read a cascade, which is why the replay shows marks and trades separately.
In depth
Why hindsight is the real problem
After a cascade, timelines compress. A transfer to an exchange that happened hours earlier gets linked to the drop, and the people who were wrong stay quiet. Without a record of what was known at each minute, a real warning is impossible to tell apart from a story fitted to the result.
The fix is a record made before the outcome, and replays that hide later events until you reach them. That is what the daily On-Chain Moves edition and Cascade Replay provide.
Worked example
Worked example: stepping through a cascade
Illustrative replay of a BTC sell-off.
| 14:02 | Tracked longs sit near a liquidation band |
|---|---|
| 14:07 | First liquidations appear in the sample |
| 14:09 | Hyperliquid mark −2.1%; later events still hidden |
| 14:12 | Band swept: cascade episode 1 |
| 14:30 | Reclaim attempt |
At 14:09 you decide what you would have done, then step forward and compare. That is the habit hindsight explanations never build.

The SuperQuant solution
Replays and records that show what was known, and when.
SuperQuant keeps the evidence in the order it arrived, records a daily read before the outcome, and hides probabilities it can't back up.
Step by step
How it works
- Open the replayPick a cascade and move the time cursor. Only what was known by then is shown.
- Test your readSketch the path you expected in the counterfactual lab and check it against later marks.
- Check the daily recordOn-Chain Moves stores one read per asset per day, before the outcome.
- Save itKeep the replay in a private research case, or study the level in Setup Atlas.
- 14:02 · tracked longs near a liquidation band
- 14:07 · first liquidations sampled
- 14:09 · Hyperliquid mark −2.1%
- 14:12 · band swept · episode 1
- 14:30 · reclaim attempt
Cursor at 14:09 · later events stay hidden
No hype
What these tools are, and what they are not
It does
- Show observations in the order they became known
- Record the daily read before the outcome, missing data included
- Hide probabilities until calibration passes
It won't
- Monitor the chain live or look up every transfer
- Turn a transfer into a buy or sell call
- Predict the next cascade
SuperQuant is research and education software. It never places trades and is not financial advice. Trading perpetual futures carries a high risk of loss.
FAQ
Questions people ask
Does On-Chain Moves watch every transfer live?
No. It is a delayed, evidence-led report for BTC, ETH and SOL. Whale Alert links are treated as discovery leads, and transaction context appears only after review.
Who can use Cascade Replay?
Cascade Replay is part of the Holder whale tier and is in beta. On-Chain Moves is open to every signed-in account.
Why doesn't the direction tab show a percentage?
An uncalibrated probability is false precision. The estimates stay qualitative until they pass a held-out calibration test.
What causes a crypto liquidation cascade?
Clusters of leveraged positions with nearby liquidation prices. When price reaches them, forced closes push it further into the next cluster. Thin order books, high open interest and crowded positioning make cascades longer.
