Check · Whale alerts

Crypto whale alerts show a trade, not a track record.

"Whale opens $20M long" tells you the size. It doesn't tell you whether this trader is any good, hedged elsewhere, or 4% from liquidation.

Crypto whale alerts are easy to find and hard to use. Hyperliquid positions are public, so anyone can post that a wallet opened a huge trade, but those posts leave out what you need to judge it: the trader's record, how close they are to liquidation, and what the rest of the top traders are doing. SuperQuant's Hyperliquid whale tracker follows the top 100 and measures every move after it happens.

What it looks like

Whale channels post size and leave out everything that matters.

  • No track record: you can't tell a skilled trader from a lucky one.
  • No risk view: a big position near liquidation can be a forced seller.
  • No follow-up: nobody checks what happened after the alert.
A typical whale-alert channelIllustration
  • WhaleAlerts🐋 0x51c… opened $22.7M ETH short
  • WhaleAlerts🐋 0x7a3… added $8M BTC long
  • WhaleAlerts🐋 HUGE SOL long incoming!!!

No scorecard · no liquidation · no follow-up

Why it happens

Why following raw whale alerts loses money

  1. Size ≠ skillBig isn't the same as rightOne lucky month can put anyone at the top of a leaderboard.
  2. Hidden riskYou can't see their liquidationA position near its liquidation price may be closed for them, at a bad price.
  3. DelayFollowers get worse fillsCopying after the alert means a later price and fees the whale didn't pay.

In depth

Why trade size is a weak signal

Leaderboards usually rank by profit over a short window. That favours traders who took large, concentrated risk and happened to be right, which is the profile least likely to repeat. Survivorship makes it worse: the traders who took the same risk and lost are no longer on the list to compare against.

Size can mislead on direction too. A large long may hedge a spot position elsewhere, or be one leg of a basis trade. Public perp data shows the position, not the reason behind it.

In depth

Liquidation distance changes what a position means

A $20 million long that is 30% from liquidation is a view. The same long 4% from liquidation is a risk: if price moves against it, the exchange may close it at market, adding selling pressure at the worst moment. Showing distance to liquidation next to size turns a headline into something you can reason about.

Net positioning across the top 100 adds the crowd view. When most top traders lean the same way that agreement is information, but crowded positioning can also unwind fast. SuperQuant shows the net lean per coin and tells you when it flips.

Worked example

Worked example: two alerts, two meanings

Illustrative data in the style of /whales top.

Alert ATrader #1 · long BTC $48.2M · 31% from liquidation · 58% hit rate (n=41)
What it meansA sizeable, well-margined position from a trader with a measured record
Alert BTrader #2 · short ETH $22.7M · 4.2% from liquidation · 47% hit rate (n=36)
What it meansLarge but fragile; a move against it could force a close
Next stepPaper copy A with $10k to see what a delayed follower keeps

In a raw whale-alert channel both would look like the same kind of headline.

No hype

What whale intelligence is, and what it is not

It does

  • Reads public Hyperliquid positions
  • Grades every tracked move at +1h, +24h and +7d
  • Shows the sample size next to every hit rate

It won't

  • Copy trades with real money; copies are simulated
  • Promise a trader will keep winning
  • Touch your account; your address is read-only

SuperQuant is research and education software. It never places trades and is not financial advice. Trading perpetual futures carries a high risk of loss.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Who counts as a top trader?

The top 100 Hyperliquid perp traders by recent profit. Each gets a scorecard so you can judge whether that profit came from a repeatable style or one lucky trade.

What is free and what needs a tier?

The top list, net positioning and the daily Whale Wrap are free. Holder adds real-time moves, liquidation radar, consensus, scorecards, 5 follows and 3 paper copies. Pro adds resting orders, crowd divergence, "against you" alerts, 20 follows and 10 copies.

Does paper copy-trading use real money?

No. It simulates following a trader at the price when SuperQuant detected the move, plus fees, so you can see how much of their result a delayed follower would have kept.

Is there a free Hyperliquid whale tracker?

Yes. In Telegram, /whales top lists the top traders with size and distance to liquidation, and /whales net shows net positioning per coin. The daily Whale Wrap is free too; real-time moves and scorecards need the Holder tier.
